Everyone Has a Story, the debut novel of young writer Savi Sharma, with its powerful theme on love and ambition created a huge buzz among young readers. Not surprisingly the book sold more than one lakh of copies – an astonishing figure for a debut writer. Soon she landed with a book deal and Westland Books. Her second book This Is Not Your Story is result of the deal.
‘Follow your dream/passion no matter comes what’ goes the saying. Yet the adage is easier said than done. Yes, following your passion is not easy but not impossible either. You need a ‘Never Give Up’ attitude. Equally needed is unconditional support of your loved ones. Savi’s new book This is Not Your Story revolves around this theme.
The book centers around three central characters – Shaurya, Anubhav and Miraya. Shaurya dreams of becoming a filmmaker but his dad pushes him towards a career in accountancy. Then there is a Miraya, a neighbour girl and cousin of Shaurya, who wants to be an interior decorator but a terrible experience in love halts her dream. The lucky-go Anubhav has his family backing to his dream of starting a start-up in his home town but a barrier is created when he faces an accident. The unexpected events in their lives are akin to Savi’s assertion “Sometimes you don’t write your story. It writes you. You don’t choose your story, it chooses you”.
Like a cup of coffee, I finished the small yet very engaging story in one sitting. The author seems to have worked hard to give a proper voice to each of the characters though you would feel more connected with Shaurya. The simple but beautifully told storyline has the depth and you would feel the emotion of protagonists. You will fee motivated and will get inspired by many simple yet powerful sentences in the book.
Savi Sharma has rapidly improved her craft in the trade. Though the storyline and characters are somewhat similar to her first book ‘Everyone Has a Story’ is clearly a better book. Some quotes in the book deserved to be included in ‘Brainy Quotes’. As you read you will fill the grip that Savi hold over you through her inspiring and powerful narrative.
This is Not Your Story by Savi Sharma has to a large extent overcome the limitations of the first book of author. Still I feel the story is fast faced and the theme is somewhat similar to Everyone Has a Story. The minor flaws certainly are too less to overlook the gripping and poignant tale in the book.
