It is just over one year since I have fallen in love with Lee Child’s books. It really feels so nostalgic sometimes to revisit some of the epic events in his books. I just can’t get over the dramatic duel between Reacher and Deputies of the small town Despair in the book Nothing to Lose. The memory Reacher single handedly taking down lot of bad guys in Worth Dying For gives me goosebumps even today. I just can’t forget the character Leela Hoth of Gone Tomorrow. I wish the womaniser Reacher bedded her!
Enough! I’m giving below list of five best Jack Reacher novels for readers new to Lee Child’s books. All of his books barring a couple of books are great. Here are 5 absolutely best novels of Lee Child.
5. Gone Tomorrow
Lee Child’s own favourite book. Once you start reading you will not be able to put up the book down until you finish it. The very first chapter will hook your attention. The story starts with Reacher travelling in a subway train in New York and spotting an alleged suicide bomber, who commits suicide ultimately inside the train. The story then goes on breathtaking pace involving Fed guys, NYPD, Private security people and Reacher. Innumerable twists and turns that you will never expect. No one can beat Reacher’s logic. A thoroughly fast paced enjoyable read.
4. Worth Dying For
This book has a very emotional storyline. Reacher shows up in rural Nebraska on his way to Virginia. He meddles with private affair of a powerful local family. And from there start a tussle between the family and Reacher that culminates in Reacher discovering a very dirty and hidden secret of the family, The book is packed with mind blowing dialogues, non-stop and relentless action. The description of rural Nebraska is so beautiful that you would feel like taking a trip to the state.
The novel is a masterpiece and it own RBA prize for crime writing for the year 2014. The book has a suspenseful beginning. Every subsequent chapter adds further suspense. Some sniper takes an unsuccessful aim at French President in Paris, France but the bullet used is American. Once Reacher is on board he was sent to France to investigate the matter. The investigation trail leads him to London, where he had an epic showdown with local criminals. More than anything else the ending will leave your spellbound. I doubt anyone will be able successfully predict the ending. This is a must read Jack Reacher novel.
Ah! I have no words to describe this magnum opus. I liked this book more than any other Jack Reacher books. The urge to complete the book such that I had to pull an all nighter to finish it at one game. The prologue, the writing style, the twists and turns, and the dramatic ending is too fabulous to be described. The writing style of the author is exceptional in this book. I don’t want to give any clue about the plot in the book. You will have absolutely no regret for money spent purchasing this book. This is one of the books that you can close with smiling face. Hat off to Lee Child!
1. Killing Floor
No other Jack Reacher novel makes me as nostalgic as Killing Floor does. This is Lee Child’s first book and to me it is still the best of the best of his novels. I simply can’t erase the beautiful small town called Maragrave and its handful residents from my memory. The romance between Jack Reacher and Roscoe feels like story of Romeo and Juliet until Reacher leaves the town at the end. The first chapter is one of the best opening chapters ever written. It is only handful books which I’m ready to reread without hesitation.
The above five books are absolutely his best. Make Me, One Shot, Never Go Back, The Hardway and Persuader are other great books to read.
