Don’t go by shitload of negative reviews about the book on the web. Many of them gave the book one star and some even wished there was some system of negative reviews. So that they would have given negative reviews to the book.
From the outset I want to remind you that ‘Oh Shit, Not Again!’ by Mandar Kokate is a National Best seller and the book is still selling well despite so many negative reviews and nasty comments. After reading the book I too had the urge to speak craps about the book and condemn the author. Later I had a realisation and focussed on positive things in the book.
So what are the positives about the book?
Ask yourself, why the book has become a bestseller if it is that bad book?
The answer is TITLE of the book. The author is sheer genius to come with a mind boggling title. ‘Oh Shit, Not Again!’ is a title that surely seduce the readers. Potential readers are unlikely even to read the blurb at back, let alone go through some lines inside the book. The tremendous success of the book clearly shows how title is important.
Secondly, why we need to single out ‘Oh Shit, Not Again!’ when Indian book market flush with crappy books. The crap writing was started by Chetan Bhagat, which was taken forward by likes Durjoy Datta, Sachin Garg etc. I have read more crappier book than ‘Oh Shit, Not Again!”. So I have no complaint.
Third, you got to admire the confidence of the writer. I would never imagine myself to put these types of content even on my blog, let alone compile a paperback. The author deservedly faced many rejection. But he had strong belief in his work. He self-published the book. And the rest became a history. You got to admire it.
Fourth, the success of the book is a proof that there are a strong reader base who loves this type of writing laced overtly with sexual overtone. You can’t find fault with the authors. The author knows ‘sex sells’ and he merely did write to cater to such type of audience. I will not be surprised if Mandar Kokate turns out to be an amazing person in real life.
Fifthly, the blurb at back side is well crafter. Each of the para is sure to increase your interest in the book. The author clearly understood the value of blurbs to the success of book. Title of the book is like a wink that seduce you to pick the book from book shelf. The blurb will give you a hard erection and you have no choice but pay to satisfy your book-lust. Sorry for bad language, folks!
And finally, the author in one of his Facebook posts had said this is fiction and written for pure entrainment. There should not be value judgment on the part of readers. I tend to agree with the writer. Fiction is fiction. It should not be made big deal unless it happens in real.
I would be biased if I don’t check the other side of the coin. Yes, the story line is a garbage. Wardrobe of the author is even more pathetic. At the end you would be like ‘My dog would write better English than this.’
Shout out to Mandar Kokate for penning a peculiar book like this!
